CERTIFICATE OF INDIAN STATUS

Indian and Northern Affairs Canada has implemented new ID requirements for status card applications. This policy must be followed even if the issuing officer personally knows the applicant.

I.D. REQUIREMENTS

Acceptable Identification for Status Card Issuance:

All I.D. must be originals and not expired.
Absolutely no photocopied or certified copies of ID cards accepted.

For applicants 16 years and Over:

One Primary ID:

Valid Canadian Passport (cannot be expired) OR
New hard plastic Secure Status Card- that has not been expired for more than 6 months.

OR

Two Secondary ID (one of which must have a digitized photo):

Old laminated status card – that has not been expired for more than 6 months
Provincial ID Card
Drivers Licence
Firearms Licence
Employee ID with digitized photo
Student ID with digitized photo
Birth Certificate
Marriage or Divorce Certificate
Provincial Health Card (Care Card)

For applicants 15 years and Under:

Applicant (child) must have one piece of Primary or Secondary ID listed above
Applicant must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian who has one piece of Primary ID or two pieces of Secondary ID (one with picture) listed above.
If applicant is accompanied by a legal guardian, they must have copy of court custody order naming guardian.

IMPORTANT

Check the back of your status card and renew it before renewal date. Drop by the Kispiox Band office to renew your status card.
It is mandatory that you bring in 2 pieces of I.D. - one must be a digital photo ID when applying for a new card
If your status card is lost/stolen or expired more then 6 months - you must have another valid picture ID to get a new status card. If your status card is your only picture ID, you should get a BC ID and only carry one of them with you.

My hours are from Monday to Friday from 8 A.M. to 12 P.M. and 1:00 P.M. to 4 P.M. No appointments are necessary but I recommend that you call to confirm that I am in the office before you come in.
