Lease for GCFSS Longhouse Project

“The Kispiox Band is committed to the wellness of our children and families through the Longhouse project”

What is the Goal?

We are proposing to lease (rent) a small parcel of land to the Gitxsan Child and Family Services Society (GCFSS) in order to build a “Longhouse” care centre facility in Kispiox.

In order to lease the land, we are required to go through a formal Indian Act process called a “Land Designation”.

The land designation process essentially “designates” or “dedicates” a specific portion of land (i.e. Lot 78, 1537 Thunder rd.) for a particular purpose (i.e. lease for the Longhouse project) through a membership approved referendum vote.

With a successful referendum vote, the land can be leased (rented) to GCFSS, the Longhouse can be built, and new child and family services become available in our community.

It is important to note that a positive land designation vote does not change the status of reserve land – it remains reserve land under the authority of Kispiox.

How can we learn about the Project?

All Kispiox membership (18 years of age or older) will be receiving an information package in the mail, providing details on the Lease for the Longhouse proposal and the vote process. These are being mailed out on September 9th 2025.

Learn about the Longhouse proposal by attending the Community Information Meeting on:

Wednesday October 8th 2025 at the Kispiox Hall 5:00- 9:00 PM

The Community Information will be your chance to hear everything you need to know from the project team and ask questions.
